Obama's Trump Card
The Post is referring to Obama's latest speechifying on how mean Republicans were trying to scare good upstanding folks who cling to guns and the Bible and voted for Hillary and will likely now vote for McCain in November. You see, it's all a grand scheme to spook the beejesus out of inbred voters who just dunno no better.
The Confluence explains:
"So nobody really thinks that Bush or McCain have a real answer for the challenges we face, so what they're going to try to do is make you scared of me," he told voters in Springfield. "You know, he's not patriotic enough. He's got a funny name. You know, he doesn't look like all those other Presidents on those dollar bills, you know. He's risky. That's essentially the argument they're making."
Calling Barack Obama “presumptuous” is the same as calling him “uppity.” The missing word that is implied with “uppity” is “negro,” or even worse, “n*gg*r” The nuclear weapon of epithets in our country, worse even than “cunt”
And of course that's when a PUMA happens on the scene, calls the trickster's bluff and exposes him to the world for the card playing cheat that he is.
Want to know why Obambi's poll numbers are not so hot? Same reason that Dems at the end of the primary season were not that into the junior senator from Illinois; and it's got nothing to do with racism. A lot of people think Hillary should be the nominee. He's been weighed, he's been measured and he has been found wanting.
As to the latest firestorm about this person or that one making racist comments, Cannonfire says it best: "Give it up...That shit played in the primary, but it just ain't gonna work in the general."
Update: Well at least Obama has dropped the campaigh shtick about "him not looking like 'all those other presidents on those dollar bills.'" Yep, he's all out of wild cards.
Second update: A McCain staffer rightly concludes that Hill and Bill were too timid in fighting off charges of racism. An aide to McCain's campaign, Steve Schmidt decided to call a spade a space.
"He injected this yesterday," Schmidt said. "We are compelled to respond. Tomorrow, if he does not do it again, we will not talk about it again."

Tweety and Olby Didn't Get the Job
Guess all that partisan hackery didn't help too much...
NBC has announced that Mark Whitaker has been named the new Washington bureau chief. He "has recently been serving as senior vice president of NBC News in New York."
Oh NO! Right about now Tweety is probably pulling out the few remaining feathers on his head. His day-to-day responsibilities will include executive oversight of "Meet the Press" and the network's election and political coverage.
NBC also said Whitaker will make occasional appearances as an on-air analyst. Additionally, he will continue on with his senior vice president duties. His day-to-day responsibilities will include executive oversight of "Meet the Press" and the network's election and political coverage.
A quickie search in Wikipedia revealed that Whitaker previously worked at Newsweek where was the first African-American to "lead a national newsmagazine" as editor.
He's a handsome little dapper...
Terry McAuliffe on "Morning Joe"
50-State Sweep
"If Sen. Obama picks Hillary Clinton, we will win this White House, I believe, in a cakewalk. And I think we'd control this White House for 16 years, which is what it will take to offset the eight years of the Bush administration," McAuliffe said.McAuliffe said the Obama campaign has "an extensive travel schedule" planned with Clinton that will begin this week. The New York Democrat has not appeared on the campaign trail with Obama since their joint event in Unity, N.H.Dah...
Fancy Nancy doesn't like the idea; guess she wants to be the only queen. Meanwhile Republicans up for reelection are avoiding the GOP convention like the plague.
Chris Matthews as Senator?
[A]llies once thought Matthews was just floating a Senate bid to help in his contract talks with MSNBC [but] now tell us that he's eager to reach out to important Pennsylvania voting groups and leaders and has even won the backing of his wife. One big concern: his nasty hit on Sen. Hillary Clinton as a "she-devil," for which he was slammed as sexist. "He is concerned he ruined it with the women vote," says an associate.Nah, you think...? Chris Matthews is a sexist, misogynist pig that should've been fired from MSNBC a long time ago.
The howler suspects Tweety's high office aspirations will go about as well as Lil Bro. As some of you may recall, Jim Matthews ran for lieutenant governor with former football great Lynn Swann as he aspired to become governor. Both were swamped at the polls, although Jim managed in '07 to scrape third place for Montgomery County commissioner with "three open seats.
Whisper goes on to note that Matthews has already "drawn up a list of feminists to contact" to help him win over bitter women voters that overwhelmingly supported Hillary in the Democratic presidential primary.
Hmmm, don't expect Hillary to lift a finger nail for that loudmouth. Besides...you can bet your last tweety pie that if Pennsylvania had not been swinging blue the last couple of election cycles, Matthews would be running as a Republican.
Arlen Specter has been fighting cancer for the last few years but more than likely will run for reelection when his term expires in '10. If Tweety decides to enter the race, he'll have to win the primary first.
Dem Royal Family Losing Faith on Obama
Well hell, Hillary supporters could've told them that Obama was no savior. And we did.
Over and over and over and over AGAIN!!!

Loyalty Oaths Required
The change we've been waiting for is here. If you want to attend a campaign event with his Eminence, first you must sign a loyalty oath.
Are you listening, Democrats? From double-crossing Dr. Alice Palmer, stealing a poor paralegal's work at MySpace, falsely accusing Hill and Bill of racist comments, bullying Hillary caucus supporters, threatening superdelegates, pilfering Michigan and Florida votes, assigning a presidential seal to himself, discarding the American flag in favor of his own symbol, attending a racist church for 20 years, stiffing the troops, and that's just right off the top of the howler's head, Obama once again proves that he's a self-centered, power hungry, piddling lightweight of Bush proportions.
In the campaign's latest power grab, we learn that not only has Obama rented Ivesco Field to keep any pesky Hillary supporters from trumping his dazzling coronation but before the door opens and the first loyal Democrat is allowed in, he or she must pledge allegiance to his royal Highniness.
H/T Spiral Gate - Image. The crowd enveloping Barack Obama when he accepts the Democratic nomination for president at Invesco Field at Mile High will be asked to get to work for the privilege of witnessing the historic event live.
In a half-hour interview Wednesday with The Denver Post, Obama’s deputy campaign manager, Steve Hildebrand, said he wants to use the ticketing process as a massive recruitment tool meant to bring in supporters from all 50 states and energize them to carry the campaign into the final 60 days of the general election/[...]
“Every single person is going to be a level of seriousness,” Hildebrand said. “You know, ‘Tell us how you’re going to get there from Maine. Tell us how you’re going to get there from Florida. Give us a sense of whether or not you’re really serious about this. If you’re not, we’re going to provide someone else with this.’“
Obama's Path to Presidency is Far from Clear
Even as his turn on the global stage hit an emotional peak Thursday with a speech before a cheering crowd of more than 200,000 in Germany, Barack Obama faced new evidence of stubborn election challenges back home.Fresh polls show that he has been unable to convert weeks of extensive media coverage into a widened lead. And some prominent Democrats whose support could boost his campaign are still not enthusiastic about his candidacy. Here's the troublesome electoral map the howler's been howling about for MONTHS! Come November when Dems lose, again, don't say you weren't warned by the army of racist she-devil PUMAs who were really secret Republicans.
H/T Slate for the graphic and new Obamaisms.
Capitán Obama's Trip...
Except maybe Cortes's soldiers have a few lifeboats this time around. This is the twenty-first century, after all, not 1519 and Hillary's brigade is at the scene of the blaze with emergency provisions.Obama's trip has nothing to do with foreign policy other than appearances. Obama's trip is to increase his popularity abroad, provide photo ops, etc. but for one overarching reason: By doing so, Obama is cementing himself as nominee so that Democratic superdelegates are forced to vote for him in Denver so as not to make the world upset and make the DNC look foolish.
Obama did not visit wounded soldiers, ostensibly because he was told not to by the Pentagon or because he couldn't be followed by his media entourage. Take your pick. It doesn't matter. Obama's trip was not a "campaign trip" to sway voters in America. It was a trip to sway opinion abroad to force the Democrats to not even think about voting for Hillary in Denver. A photo op with wounded soldiers mattered not. American opinion of the trip matters not. Only the opinion of the world matters.
This, in a way, was the true point of no return for Obama. The last nail in Hillary's coffin. The proverbial "Cortes burning his ships."

Say it Ain't So Donna...
Yes, even before Brazile led poor Al Gore into the abyss, the howler knew she was a phony. But...could Donna be a Rovian mole?
Well before you accuse the howler of wrapping her tin foil hat on too tightly, read on. It seems Donna Iscariot has a Rovian connection and more.
[T]he Rove-Brazile tryst merits further exploration," writes Rosemary Regello of The City Edition.
Oh dear. the beginning of a beautiful friendship that only got better and stronger with time; here are the gory details -- if you can stomach the stench from the sleeper Judas mole. They first hooked up some time in 2002, according to the New York Times. The connection might have been a means for Brazile to expand her clientele, but she dismissed that angle in an interview, implying she had bigger fish to fry. It was the Democrats' lackluster relations with African Americans and poor track record in elections, she said, that led her to start trailblazing new frontiers. In her view, the Republicans had a better machine.
''The idea is to re-energize the African-American electorate and revive the Democratic Party at the same time,'' she told Times reporter Katharine Seelye, ''I want to revitalize the party from the grass roots up. We're losing voters.''
With that noble cause in mind, she and Rove began to "chirpily exchange e-mail, chat on the phone and write letters, indulging in their shared zeal for the inner workings of politics," Seelye wrote.
Oh, and on a rich endnote, it seems Rove has his own electoral map with his very own math. Contrary to nearly every poll, Obama wins in a squeaker. That's right. Barky leads McSame 272 to 183.
Minnesota? No problem; give it Obama. Give him Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Iowa as well. Montana? Yeah, give that one to him, too.
Disenfranchised Voters Can Request Voting Right Restored
Virginia and Kentucky are the only two states in the Union that permanently take away citizen rights to vote if they've been convicted of a felony. "The good news," Post sanguinely notes, "is that Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine has pledged to expedite the review process for eligible petitioners who submit a one-page application (for nonviolent felonies) by Friday in time to participate in November and thereafter."
Whooptydo.
Hell, the howler says give every felon his or her right to vote. She's so sick of hearing and reading about past mistakes following people to their graves. Felons paid their debt to society. If a former teen gang-banger (oh, like say some former state senator's daughter) had a youthful indescretion and did something wrong, should that person be disenfranchised for life? She doesn't think so...and neither should you.
Obama Hypocrisy (And Media)
Something the howler failed to think about in the throes of being too Barackupied -- too busy to think about anything or anybody but The Chosen One.
It's well worth a read; and here are a few observations that should melt even the most cold-blooded vertebrate animal.
Where is the outrage? One supposes in Obamaland and media, two absolute wrongs can and do make a right. Yes it can...Barack Obama's smiling brown face and Kansas-Kenya parentage are key elements in the Obama brand, that hazy image of progressive, post-racial transformation at home and abroad which lie at the heart of his appeal. At the same time, Barack Obama is committed to preserving what he calls Israel's “identity as a Jewish state”, the polite term for what much of the rest of the world recognizes as an apartheid state.
A June 29 editorial by no less a member of the Israeli elite than Amos Schocken, the publisher of Ha'aretz, Israel's daily newspaper of record is titled “Citizenship Law Makes Israel An Apartheid State” The gist of it is that the Israeli government prohibits recognition of marriages or family reunions between Arabs with Israeli citizenship and Arabs who live within the borders of Israel-Palestine in the bantustans of Gaza and the West Bank --- inside the borders of Israel-Palestine but without Israeli citizenship.
What if...?
Indeed!
Unfortunately for readers, the post quickly disintegrades into drivel by opining that Hillary Clinton could never be the Democratic presidential nominee because of untold "obvious reasons."
Be that as it may, let's overlook the histrionics and play along with CHB.
Silly rabbit, time for your fresh bowl of sprouts sprinkled with a glob of truth. Every reason you state for Obama picking Hillary as his vice presidential candidate equally applies as urgently to superdelegates in picking Hillary at the top of the Democratic ticket. When I ponder how each of all those mentioned as V.P. choices would effect the outcome of the election in light of the close polls I find I am reconsidering whether or not Hillary would be the best choice.
Would she be the only V.P. choice to make the difference in more than one or two swing states?
Would she be the most likely to convince enough independent women who are leaning Republican to vote Democratic?
Would she actually overcome the Obamaphobia among so many white blue collar Americans to make a difference?
Perhaps Hillary is the best choice.
And all that crap about Hillary's campaign going negative, forget about it. The first folks to impugn anybody's character were Jessie Jackson, Jr., Jim Clyburn and the rest of the gamy gang from Obamaland who repeatedly accused Bill and Hill or racism without one shred of evidence immediately after Obama lost in New Hampshire. Let's not rewrite history...
Tim Kaine for Vice President
Everyone likes Tim Kaine, including the howler; she devoted endless hours to his successful campaign against Jerry Kilgore. Still...how is Kaine going to help Obama win swing states like Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Michigan, please do tell...
Even though Kaine does not have the depth of experience or far-reaching national support as Hillary, the howler must admit he is a straight-up guy who can get a crowd roaring and might make a great vice presidential candidate by the sheer force of his personality and life story should the superdelegates take a chance on two guys who were essentially unknown a little over four years ago.
As a sidebar and for whatever it's worth, when attending one of Kaine's rallies a few years ago, the howler's sis said of Kaine that he put sis to mind of another great communicator, former President Bill Clinton.

The Anointed One
And it came to pass, in the eighth year of the reign of the evil Bush the Younger (The Ignorant), when the whole land from the Arabian desert to the shores of the Great Lakes had been laid barren, that a Child appeared in the wilderness. No need to read the Holy Book; get details of the virgin birth from Brother Gerard Baker as layed out in the Book of Times. Here's a sneak preview by way of sacred passages.
On the Seventh Day he walked across the Channel of the Angles to the ancient land of the hooligans. There he was welcomed with open arms by the once great prophet Blair and his successor, Gordon the Leper, and his successor, David the Golden One.Behold unto us a child is born, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace (Book of Obamazoids 9:6-7).
And suddenly, with the men appeared the archangel Gabriel and the whole host of the heavenly choir, ranks of cherubim and seraphim, all praising God and singing: “Yes, We Can.”

Obama Not Doing So Hot
Ahem ahem! It seems the folks in swing states didn't receive their memo; for some strange reason, voters are just not that into Obama.
The Washington Post headlines a recent poll that shows McSame zeroing in on The Chosen One.
Republican John McCain has quickly closed the gap between himself and Democratic rival Sen. Barack Obama in several key battleground states even as the Arizona senator struggles to break through the wall-to-wall coverage of Obama's trip to Europe and the Middle East this week.Well, the howler is not surprised in the least. Ever since early February, Obama has underwhelmed by every measure imaginable -- and this in spite of the media going ga-ga and their 24/7 lovefest.
Remember the new electoral map that would bring the White House to Dems? Well, the new map looks an awful lot like the old losing one -- unfortunately.
McCain and Obama are in a statistical dead heat in Colorado, Michigan and Minnesota while the Illinois senator has a more comfortable double-digit edge in Wisconsin, according to polling conducted by Quinnipiac University for Washingtonpost.com and the Wall Street Journal during the past week. Only in Colorado, however, does McCain hold a greater percentage of the vote share than Obama. That's what Dems get for stealing Hillary's vote in Michigan and giving them to Obama. Obama may lead in national polls, but it's the swing states that are going to determine who will be the next president.

PUMAs Stalking Obama
Now Howling Latina wouldn't go so far as to say that if Hillary isn't the nominee at the top of the ticket or as the vice presidential candidate, she'll vote for McSame. Nevertheless...she ain't saying she's voting for Obama, either. It all depends how this all shakes out.
PUMAs do have a point when they note that McSame will be a lame duck immediately after he enters the White House. And with an army of PUMAs at the ready, Hillary can make a run at the presidency in '12.

Whores
First, the Democratic party resolves to silence Hillary and her 18 million voters by denying them the opportunity to cast their votes for her in Denver. And if that weren't bad enough, party enforcement officers are now trying to silence their voices by demanding they shut up and stand in line with Obama.
For Howling Latina, she has been summarily delinked to a boatload of progressive blogging sites as well as leftyblogs. Other supporters are getting nasty missives from party officlals to cease and desist. But we refuse to be silenced...
The ultimate irony and kick in the groin is the goodie bag to be handed out in Denver to delegates; it is sponsored by AT&T as a thank-you note to congressional Dems for recently legislating a FISA get-out-jail card especially for them.
Fed up? Don't despair; there is a PUMA convention at the Marriott Wardman Hotel in Washington on August 8 – 10, 2008.

Obama's Greatest Admirer
In this morning's Washington Post, Krauthammer takes us down Memory Lane filled with example after example of Obama tooting his own horn. Hearkening back to Obama's nonexistent resume, Krauthammer writes: "[H]as there ever been a presidential nominee with a wider gap between his estimation of himself and the sum total of his lifetime achievements?"
Now granted, Krauthammer's homily about Obama's "audacity of vanity" after eagerly supporting the most egotistical, self-centered, self-absorbed impertinent president during the howler's lifetime puts her to mind of that fine scammer from the "The Music Man," Harold Hill. "[V]irtue spilling out of every pocket and innocence written all over him where sly graffiti should be." But even a poser can strike the right chord once in a while.
The guy has a point when he mentions that Obama has no major legislation, no historical "piece of scholarship," Nothing noteworthy; no record to run on. Nada. For the unenlightenened, that's Spanish for nothing.
It seems Obama's greatest accomplishment to date is his literary masterpiece -- a book about himself -- his favorite subject.
In his victory speech upon winning the nomination, Obama declared it a great turning point in history -- "generations from now we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment" -- when, among other wonders, "the rise of the oceans began to slow."OH yes, Obama was once again in true form, assigning magical powers of Biblical proportion.
"Moses made the waters recede, but he had help,"' Krauthammer quotes from a London Daily Telegraph article. "[A]pparently [Obama] works alone."
[I]n the words of his own slogan, "we are the ones we've been waiting for," which, translating the royal "we," means: " I am the one we've been waiting for." Amazingly, he had a quasi-presidential seal with its own Latin inscription affixed to his lectern, until general ridicule -- it was pointed out that he was not yet president -- induced him to take it down. The man doth think a little too much of himself. Phony presidential seal, what's next, papal robes and a crown?
Redeemer of our uninvolved, uninformed lives. Lord of the seas. And more. As he said on victory night, his rise marks the moment when "our planet began to heal."In one lasting bit of irony, Krauthammer points out the latest cheeky precept from The Chosen One.
During the last few days on the campaign trail, Obama has been sneering at folks who can't French or Spanish because he thinks every American should be speaking French or Spanish or both -- and that especially goes for all those hillbillies in the backwoods who overwhelming voted for Hillary. Of course, the dumb sap can't speak either language. It's a case of 'do as I say...not as I do.' And for the record, the howler speaks Spanish, so she can talk.
This guy really sounds a little too close like another revivalist crackpot. After eight long painful years of Bush, do we really want to go through all that misery and bedlam again?
Strike up that marching band, Obamazoids. A new improved music man is coming to town to raise the dead, calm the storms, align the planets and on his way out sell you a little jive and jitterbug for all your troubles.
Update: Frank Jen of The Swamp chimes in with his thoughts:
To a large extent, Obama has arguably been forced to do the sorts of things Krauthammer finds so much fault with because of the senator from Illinois's relatively short resume in national politics. One sharp commenter remarked, "That's the point: Obama has NO accomplishments of note. So we're supposed to take him at his word as he 'sings' his hollow words of self praise? No wonder he has no humor. His resume' reads like a joke..."Obviously, if he had the life experiences of a Dwight Eisenhower or a Lyndon Johnson, he could soft-pedal his accomplishments because they would speak for themselves.
Leave Those Gays Alone...
The Washington Post reports that most Americans are no longer pulling their hair and thrusting about at the thought of gays serving in the military; and in hindsight, it looks like Bill Clinton's incremental "don't ask, don't tell" may have worked exactly as planned.
Seventy-five percent of Americans in a new Washington Post-ABC News poll said gay people who are open about their sexual orientation should be allowed to serve in the U.S. military, up from 62 percent in early 2001 and 44 percent in 1993.And before batwings start screaming that only degenerate Dems have changed their mind, read on.
Majorities of Democrats, Republicans and independents alike now believe it is acceptable for openly gay people to serve in the U.S. armed forces. Shortly after he took office in 1993, Clinton faced strong resistance to his campaign pledge to lift the military's ban on allowing gay people to enlist. At that time, 67 percent of Republicans and 75 percent of conservatives opposed the idea. A majority of independents, 56 percent, and 45 percent of Democrats also opposed changing the policy.Polls currently show voters in California oppose the proposition that would ban gay marriages. Guess a few GOPers can finally come out and get married for "real." Or even stay in the military.

The Buzz is Growing
Heidi Li Feldman, a Georgetown University law professor likes to often remind people that "there’s...'no way of predicting' the outcome should there be a fair vote. That’s because Obama has not secured enough pledged delegates to ensure the magic number of 2,118 needed to claim victory; the Illinois senator has gone past that benchmark only with the pledges of about 390 superdelegates — and they can change their minds at any time up to the moment they cast their ballots.
Obamazoids and the media know perfectly well that party rulez, the very ones they perpetually quoted during the primaries give superdelegates the instrumentality to override caucus voters -- especially after Hillary won every major swing state in the Union, Obama began to backtrack on every promise made to voters and as a result, he started to tank at the polls."If they had a meaningful vote, I have no idea who would win," Feldman says. "But I know that if Sen. Obama were sure he would win, there wouldn't be a negotiation" about Clinton's role at the convention.
It's insulting that Hillary supporters have to keep reminding people who know better every minute of the day that "[t]he 438 superdelegates currently backing Obama have the opportunity to change their vote at any point between now and the convention, similar to the way an individual who responds to a Gallup poll may change their vote between now and election day."
Last time the howler checked, it was still a free country. Right after the media coronated Obama as the presumptive nominee, in hindsight, he probably should have sent an immediate signal to Hillary that she was his sweetie and the one and only for him.

Eight Supers Switch Allegiance
Alegre's Corner reports that eight superdelegates -- if given the opportunity -- would switch their votes from Obama to Hillary.
Alegre identifies likely reasons for the change of heart:
Politico may have stumbled upon one or two reasons why the Supers are starting to take a fresh look at Hillary...The folks on the Hill (aka Super delegates) are getting pissed at BHO for the lack of effort on his part when it comes to fundraising, coordination and support theyre getting in their own bid for re-election etc.
Hmmm, what that ol' saying about counting chickens before they hatch? Or is it somethin' about chickens coming to roost?!?
Kukeleku to ye'all...

Oh, Oh -- Someone Else Has Noticed
Politico writes that Obamamania is losing steam.
[S]ome Capitol Hill Democrats have begun to complain privately that Barack Obama's presidential campaign is insular, uncooperative and inattentive to their hopes for a broad Democratic victory in November. “They think they know what’s right and everyone else is wrong on everything,” groused one senior Senate Democratic aide. “They are kind of insufferable at this point.”Hmmm, exactly why are Dems still behind Obama??? Please do tell...but wait, there are reasons to add to your list.
Hate to say we told you so but...WE TOLD YOU SO!!![O]ne Democratic aide, speaking on the condition of anonymity, compared the Obama campaign unfavorably to President Bush’s administration.
“At least Bush waited until he was in the White House before they started ignoring everybody,” the aide said.
Fear -- That's What's Going On
But there is more cloak and dagger from Barky's campaign; they want to ban any mention of Hillary's name in Denver.
Craig Crawford once again smacks the unity pony on its simulated head with his latest column about what's at stake for Obama if the DNC follows their own frigging rulez and allows Hillary's name to be placed up for nomination and every delegate she won is allowed to vote for her.
Indeed! With the dust settled on the primary season, one thing is clear: Obama is the presumed nominee thanks only to superdelegates. He never did win enough pledged delegates to reach the winning number, falling about 350 votes short. His expected victory stems from beating Clinton among superdelegates 463-257, according to a tally on Real Clear Politics.
All the more reason for Obama to make sure that there is no roll call including Clinton's name on the ballot at the national convention -- which a few die hard fans of the former First Lady are still clamoring for.
Best case scenario for Obama if Hillary's name goes before the convention is history records his weak win; and how he was never able to close the deal with Democratic voters; and how his coronation was only realized through caucus shenanigans, DNC largesse and superdelegate chickenheartedness. But at least he would get to keep his stolen nomination.
Of course the absolute nightmare scenario that keeps Obama awake at nights is that he continues to tank at the polls, can't raise the cash, superdelegates wake up from their self imposed stupor and Hillary emerges as the Democratic presidential candidate in Denver -- as she rightfully should.

Primary Colors
With McWhorter's latest release, Rose was featuring his book and asking him about the premise that hip-hop had failed black America. Absent of getting into the issue of whoever said that hip hop was/is/should save anyone, as the Los Angeles Times did last month in their review of McWhorter's book, the howler only wishes to provide a few salient observations by McWhorter that stand out far above any musings on the moribund hip hop genre.
Something has been growing in the deep trenches of the howler's brain and festering like an intracranial tumor with no outlet for release; and that is the loud phony outrage expressed by Obama supporters anytime anyone dared to say the obvious during the Democratic presidential primary that might negatively impact Obama's message of "hope" (such as Obama could lose in November while Hillary would be a shoo-in).
McWhorter spoke of the problem and couched false charges of racism as a force that's diluting the brunt of the word. McWhorter notes that "racism is not saying something blacks don't like," and accusing people of bigotry at the drop of a hat only serves to minimize the power of the word through overuse.
Contrary to MSNBC and the blogger boyz, McWhorter concludes there was absolutely nothing Bill or Hillary Clinton said or did during the campaign that was remotely racist; and any charges of racism were politically motivated; and yes, this especially includes the comment by former President Bill Clinton in pointing out that a win by Obama in North Carolina did not necessarily mean a win by Obama was foreordained. Unfortunately mainstream media and blogger boyz made sure charges of racism stuck around long enough to win over credulous Dems who would never vote for a racist man-eating she-devil.
And before anyone rushes to point out that McWhorter is a Senior Senior Fellow at the Manhattan Institute, a conservative think tank as well as a columnist at The New York Sun, a newspaper with a right/center bent, first read this article in The New Republic. McWhorter praises Obama's speech on race relations; moreover, he confided to Rose that he supports Obama.
Be that as it may, Barky was obviously running out of fuel toward the end of the primary season -- as evidenced by his succession of losses. But in came Howard Dean and Donna Brazille to the rescue with DNC mop-up duty. Drop a giant cover over Hillary's 18 million votes inside their all-purpose "rules" and voila, the anointment was complete and democracy was destroyed in '08.
Wonder ye then at the fiery pushback? PUMAs will not rest until justice is served and Hillary is awarded every single delegate she won during the primaries and her name is placed in nomination for a roll-call in Denver.

Who Will it Be...?
Hmmm, can't help but wonder if this was by design to boost Hillary's chances. Strickland was a staunch Clinton advocate; and although Webb never disclosed who was his presidential choice, every comment he made was strikingly similar to those articulated by Hillary supporters.
Well, the rancor between Barky and Hillary is so deeply embedded that folks are starting to talk; and before this tale is over, it's going to take a lot more than rhetoric and an "outreach" director to prune and grind the rotting root of resentment experienced by Hillary supporters.
Here's Means observing the dynamics behind the "unity" curtain:
Clinton, no dummy, wants her name to be put in nomination — her huge delegate count certainly gives her the right. She should indeed record for posterity how many delegates she collected in the closest nomination fight in history. Again, this may be a female issue, but it also is a matter of fairness. In the past, Obama the Brave touted himself as a new kind of politician; one who uses spellbinding rhetoric to better mankind. But so far the pied piper of Hamelin has used his black art to better himself; indeed, his rhetoric has been used to dazzle and bamboozle folks from near and faraway lands to install him as Chief Bagpiper in Washington's magic kingdom.
Meanwhile back at the hamlet with the rats and vermin, Obama can't seem to decode the courtly sound of a few letters to enunciate a simple first name.
Sure looks like Mr. Phenomenal is a sore winner; one supposes it could be 'cause he knows history will record that he didn't really win after all; this guy is so insecure he can't say Hillary's name without gagging and going into convulsions. But this is so typical of the way Obama travels: sweet talking guy talking sweet kinda lies as he leaves behind a trail of ill feelings along the countryside. At the fund-raiser, [Obama] appealed for donations to help relieve Hillary's campaign debt. Tellingly, he didn't call her Hillary, which would have been an affectionate gesture, nor even senator.
He called her "Mrs. Clinton," as though they had barely met. Women sense this disdain, and naturally don't like it. He has had a hard time attracting the support of older, working-class white women in most states that Clinton won.
Of Strickland and Webb, Means tellingly adds:
They left no doubt they wanted no part of an Obama presidency. These are wise men, good Democratic politicians interested in the future. It makes one wonder what they found in Obama that deterred them.
Their reasons were feeble, but crystal clear. They didn’t want to be tied as second fiddle to the guy.
Sweet Talking Guy
This song is for Obamatrons.

Banned from MyDD / Nowhere Man
Unity love from the blogosphere.
The Denver Group
Yes, the agile terrestrial wild cats had enough of Howard Dean, Donna Brazille and the rest of the gamy gang and decided to do something about it, initially through hard-hitting posts in the blogosphere and now through The Denver Group, a group of like-minded Democrats whose goal is to let every voice be raised and heard.
Indeed, by increasing their terrain through ad-buys starting today in Obama's own backyard, The Denver Group will be highlighting to the world the incredible mockery of democratic principles by Obama supporters in their demand that Hillary fork over her delegates because according to them stealing is good for Obama, er, democracy.
Well, here's what The Denver Group had to say about that one:
There are many ways for voices to be heard. But one of the best is using mass media, especially when the news media isnt doing an honest job reporting the facts or standing up for basic principles.Using mass media to accomplish a goal not only reaches a lot of people in one shot with a lot of impact, it also let's people know there are significant resources behind it and it's something to be reckoned with. One full page ad in the Washington Post could have the impact of 50,000 emails or letters sent by individuals. And with such a big hairy audacious goal as a full-page ad, the group started raising money for the soon-to-come advertising blitz, accepting no contribution over $5000 -- a nice way to keep the organization focused and grounded -- without any fatcats wandering off into enemy territory.
The first yield from the drive is this nice hard-hitting ad published in the Chicago Tribune.
H/T Alegre's Corner.
The Denver Group: Keeping the Democratic Party democratic
Hillary Wins
Next in line is Gov. Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas. CBS thinks she has the next best chance. In third place place for show is Gov Bill Richardson of New Mexico.
Of course a few folks have taken themselves out of the Veepstake. Sen. Jim Webb has publicly stated he's not interested in the job. And Gov. Ted Strickland of Ohio has also declined to be considered.
More about Hillary being vetted by Obama later in a post...

DNC Stealing Hillary Votes
But...she was wrong; more high-jinks from Obamaland is on its way; it's not enough the DNC took away Hillary votes from Michigan and awarded them to Obama; nope, they now want to take ALL her votes away and give them to Obama.
Alegre's Corner links to an article in The Wall Street Journal chronicling Obama's thoughts on the subject; and the verdict is in. Obama thinks to allow Hillary to claim her rightful delegates in Denver would beget famine, pestilence, chaos and confusion and besides he could lose it all. STILL...
A full roll-call vote that reminds everyone how close she came to being the nominee could reveal party rifts going into the fall campaign, they said.Party rifts, my ass; they're scared out of their claptraps that supers will change their minds and vote for Hillary. Alegre explains the fraud with a quote from former undeclared superdelegate Donna Brazille:
Yes, she really did say that; one supposes to absolutely prove what a shameless phony she is and has always been.Sen. Clinton's campaign office didn't answer emails seeking comment. Under party rules, Sen. Clinton's huge delegate count gives her the right to put her name into nomination. "But do you do it?" asked Ms. Brazile. "Politically, does it heighten tensions?"
DNC, give Hillary her rightful votes...she more than earned each and every one of them, you thieves. And like The Confluence notes, she only needs "to convince 175 superdelegates that voting for Obama is a really bad idea and it will be Hillary onstage at Invesco Field."Until now, Donna had no problem with the disenfranchisement of two HUGE swing states. She didn't have problems with taking delegates from "uncomitted" and Hillary, and giving them to Obama. "Michigan and Florida had to play by the rules", she said. Florida democrats grew hoarse repeating the same thing over and over again: that they were unable to move the primary date; that they lived in a state controlled by Republicans at every level; that Republicans attached the bill to essential legislations and put the primary at the same date as a crucial ballot initiative. "No sale", said Donna. "Rules are rules", said Donna.
Donna, how do you spell hypocrisy, corruption, shilling and selling out?? Donna, how do you spell hypocrisy, corruption, shilling and selling out??

Insufferable Obama Supporters...
Prime Buzz reports that unforeseen "[b]ad blood [is] hampering Obama's effort to help retire Clinton's debt."
A prominent donor to Sen. Barack Obama recently sent an e-mail plea to other supporters, asking them — for the sake of Democratic unity — to write checks to Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton to help retire her $23 million in campaign debt.Hmmm, guess a leopard can't change its spots at the drop of the hat -- even when dropped at the behest of the oratorical magnificent One.
Some of the replies are unprintable, given the coarse language, the donor said.
The bitterness in the Clinton camp about the primary battle is well known, but several Clinton donors and campaign officials said a deeper issue remained unsettled: The belief — or, perhaps, the perception — that Obama and his aides are half-hearted in their efforts to help Clinton and include her top donors on his leadership team.Hell, forget about the money; the bitterness from the bitter bitties is still raw from the dishonorable and dishonest campaign that's still going on.
In the meantime, Hillary Clinton has asked Robert Barnett, a "high-powered Washington lawyer...to help structure a political relationship between them for the general election" and protect her interests so she doesn't get fleeced.
According to several Democrats who have spoken to Barnett, he has counseled the Clinton camp that honey will work better than vinegar in the debt talks. But Clinton donors say it is an open question whether the Clintons believe they should play hardball — signaling that they will not rally enthusiastically behind Obama unless he does more on the debt situation — or appear agreeable with the expectation that the money will ultimately come through. What, you thought all that unity was for free? You must be a fool...time to get out that rhetoric matters speech, er, money matters apologia that translates into cash.
Eighteen million voters Barky; what are we worth to you?
First Proposal the Howler Likes
Well, it's about damn time!
Barack Obama moved Tuesday to paint the 2008 presidential election in stark terms of rich vs. poor, and fat cats vs. struggling families. It ain't the whole enchilada, but it sure is a damn START!
In a 15-minute speech before 2,700 screaming supporters at McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Obama unveiled a pair of new proposals aimed at easing bankruptcy laws for military families and for seniors.
If Dems had a brain, which the howler seriously doubts, they'd see the opportunity to bring even more Reagan Democrats back into the fold -- especially since Dixie led the nation in the number of bankruptcies before the bill was inked and signed by Bush.
He's Just Not that into You.....
Well, the howler thinks Webb just isn't that into Obama. All that fresh scrutiny from the unity gansters, who needs it?
Another One Bites the Dust
"If drafted I will not run, nominated I will not accept and if elected I will not serve," Strickland told National Public Radio's "All Things Considered. "So, I don't know how more crystal clear I can be."Now Sen. Jim Webb has released a statement taking himself out of the vice presidential sweepstate.
Under no circumstances will I be a candidate for Vice President. Can someone get a witness; they're dropping faster than flies caught in an electrical bug zapper.
"At this time I am also renewing my commitment to work hard to make sure that Senator Obama wins both Virginia and the presidency this November. He is a man who speaks eloquently about our national goals and calls for the practical solutions that must be put into place to obtain them. I will proudly campaign for him."Well, the howler has to admit she's very, very disappointed. Guess it's Hillary or bust; she can't think of a single candidate who wants the job that is more qualified than Sen. Hillary Clinton.

Charlie Crist to Wed - Inside Scoop
Howling Latina rarely--if ever -- has an honest to goodness scoop; she is no insider but...a few weeks ago, she happened to be at a party where a current Bush administration insider with deep roots in Florida was drinking rather heavily; they began to chat about possible v-p candidates for McSame.
With rumors of Crist's alternative lifestyle, the howler mentioned Crist to see how the insider would respond. And lo and behold, you could've hit her with a ton of bricks when he honestly blurted out. "No way, he's gay; it would come out during the campaign."
"Yea," the howler responded; and that was that. But she guesses a shotgun wedding of convenience ALA Rock Hudson will go a long way toward cooling accusing hot tongues during the general election.
Not that there's anything wrong with being gay...right GOPers...? On the other hand, perhaps this is just a trial balloon by McSame to see who knows what while Crist gets his ducks, er vows in a row in case McSame calls him up.
Update: boy culture has details on the "engaygement."

Happy Fourth of July!!!
Kumbaya Bus
Oops, so sorry...we're gonna do it anyway; you're getting "primaried."
The New York Times headlines a new phenomena that's spreading like wildfire throughout the land: "A New Campaign Charge: You Supported Clinton." As if that were the most abhorrent vile thing...
After all, we're not talking about the Bennie Lambert type of travesty of supporting a Republican candidate over the Democratic one; support by 18 million voters for the obviously most qualified presidential candidate in the race by way of Hillary was not a travesty.
Nevertheless, some Obama unity thugs are trying to primary Rep. Edolphus Towns of New York, a 13-term incumbent because he "did not share his constituency’s preference for Mr. Obama."
Rep. John Lewis is also receiving love and attention. He now faces "primary challenges from two black candidates who have been critical of him for backing Mrs. Clinton for months before shifting to Mr. Obama."
Ditto for Rep. Gregory Meeks of New York who faces a primary opponent making a big stink out of "Mr. Meeks’s support of the Clinton campaign in a district...where Mr. Obama drew nearly 56 percent of the vote."
No word from Obama Central about the unity paybacks; but apparently it's okay to punish Hillary supporters except when it ain't.
Representative John Barrow, who is white but represents a district that is largely black, is under attack from a challenger who says Mr. Barrow was also late to endorse Mr. Obama.
[...]
[O]ne district — Mr. Barrow’s in Savannah — is considered vulnerable to Republican competition in the fall. And there, Mr. Obama surprised many black leaders by endorsing Mr. Barrow, a conservative Democrat who did not endorse him until after the Georgia primary.
Regina Thomas, a Georgia state senator who is black and is running for the seat, said that voters shared her displeasure with Mr. Obama’s decision. “This is what one constituent said to me, ‘Barrow didn’t do anything to help Obama win the 12th District,’ ” she said. “After he endorsed Barrow, people were like: ‘What in the world is he doing? Why doesn’t he just stay out of it?’ ”
Oh, I'm sorry; that's right; you're still a superdelegate. You still have time to do the right thing.
H/T Pagan Power.
Room is Filling Up Under the Bus
That Was Fast
Yesiree, Howling Latina has to agree with Charles Krauthammer's latest op-ed in The Washington Post, even though it begins with some crowing of his own about flag pins, which according to a USA Today/Gallup poll is an irrelevant issue but nicely segues into the heart of the matter.
Are we starting to feel the unity and love yet, Arianna, Chris, Olby, Dave and the boyz? Actually count the howler out, she knew it all along and tried to warn EVERYONE!In last week's column, I thought I had thoroughly chronicled Obama's brazen reversals of position and abandonment of principles -- on public financing of campaigns, on NAFTA, on telecom immunity for post-Sept. 11 wiretaps, on unconditional talks with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad -- as he moved to the center for the general election campaign. I misjudged him. He was just getting started.
Last week, when the Supreme Court declared unconstitutional the District of Columbia's ban on handguns, Obama immediately declared that he agreed with the decision. This is after his campaign explicitly told the Chicago Tribune last November that he believes the D.C. gun ban is constitutional.
But wait, that's not all. It seems Mr. Krauthammer earlier foretold a complete reversal by Obama on withdrawing troops from Iraq. He figured by Election Day, Obama will repudiate so much of what he said during the primary that there would be little distinction between Obama and McSame. You know, on the seminal issue during the Democratic presidential campaign that Obama used to beat Hillary over the head.
Well, Krauthammer now readily admits he may have "underestimated Obama's cynicism." And the lengths Obama would go to distance himself from his own words. Why wait for Election Day when you you can do now?
Krauthammer has updated his time frame; he now predicts Obama will make the about-face much sooner. Like immediately after Obama returns from his dog and pony show, er, fact-finding trip to Iraq.
"The shift has already begun," he notes. "Yesterday, he said that his 'original position' on withdrawal has always been that 'we've got to make sure that our troops are safe and that Iraq is stable.' And that 'when I go to Iraq . . . I'll have more information and will continue to refine my policies.'"
In other words, equal to Barky's two-faced backtracking on public financing, the writing is on the wall. Obama's campaign will claim any promises made to MILLIONS of Democratic primary voters were just "inartful" rubbish. So don't cry for me Move on, cry for yourself. You've been duped, bamboozled, flim-flammed, snookered, okie-dokied, and the grifter didn't even have the courtesy to give you a heads-up so you could get your talking points straight before he started doing all his back pedaling. He hasn't even gone to Iraq and the flip is almost complete. All that's left to say is that the 16-month time frame remains his goal but that he will, of course, take into account the situation on the ground and the recommendation of his generals in deciding whether the withdrawal is to occur later or even sooner.
Done.
And before Obamazoids start screaming about Krauthammer as the howler's source, go ahead and read the front-page New York Times article, it's the exact sentiment with tell-all details.

Wesley Clark Repeats Bob Schieffer's Words
Obama should've watched the video before he denounced Clark's comment. Guess that's why he denounced and then dis-denounced.
Typical...
Oops, He Did it Again
A little smack down that would've been nicer, by the way, if it had come from the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee and leader of our party. Good luck on that one.
But to fan the flames, add even more salt to wound, injury to the insult, etc., in an interview today Obama acted as if he never contradicted Clark about McSame's presidential credentials less than 24 hours ago. Barky's lame excuse is that the speech he gave was written "months ago."
Yes, that's all well and good except it doesn't exactly explain his rejection of General Clark's statement, which has absolutely nothing to do with his speech.
In the ultimate dog and pony show, Corrente masterfully pins the tail on the pony by noting that "Obama both reject[ed] and defend[ed] Clark’s comments," in accordance with his majestic sense of honor. Of course, "either way he’s [always] doing the right thing."
Meanwhile back at the ranch, Sen. Jim Webb of Virginia goated McSame into a piss fight by defending Clark. McSame then foolishly accused Webb of coordinating his attack with Obama; a losing proposition except the narrative of Obama incapable of speaking for himself.
It's come down to McSame indicting Obama for pusillanimity, i.e., no balls. Can't imagine that narrative flying if Mountain Mama were the nominee.
Big Tent Democrat of Talk Left just hopes and prays "the Obama camp [doesn't] cower with a rejection of Webb. Just saying...

It's not too late. Until the last convention delegate in Denver has voted to put Obama over the top, Democrats can still change their minds.
Progressives have worked too hard for too long to allow some poser to steal the nomination and then spit in their faces. Now what are the boyz going to do about it? Are they going to end up like the rabid toadying Republicans who kept supporting Bush's madness until it was too late?!?
