Tweety and Olby Didn't Get the Job

As much as both egomaniacs were earlier positioning themselves for Tim Russert's old job, they've been dissed by MSNBC.

Guess all that partisan hackery didn't help too much...

NBC has announced that Mark Whitaker has been named the new Washington bureau chief. He "has recently been serving as senior vice president of NBC News in New York."

His day-to-day responsibilities will include executive oversight of "Meet the Press" and the network's election and political coverage.

NBC also said Whitaker will make occasional appearances as an on-air analyst. Additionally, he will continue on with his senior vice president duties. His day-to-day responsibilities will include executive oversight of "Meet the Press" and the network's election and political coverage.

Oh NO! Right about now Tweety is probably pulling out the few remaining feathers on his head.

A quickie search in Wikipedia revealed that Whitaker previously worked at Newsweek where was the first African-American to "lead a national newsmagazine" as editor.

He's a handsome little dapper...

Comments:
HL -- you do realize, don't you, that there is no reliable evidence that either Olbermann or Matthews was after the Russert job? The only evidence -- which has been repeated in many blogs so that some people actually believe it -- is in a column of the NY Post's Page Six, their gossip page. The Post, of course, is owned by Rupert Murdoch, and Page Six has never been known for its slavish devotion to facts. In this case, the canard that at the memorial service Matthews was on his cell phone to his agent talking about how to get the Russert job is attributed to an unidentified "spy" at the memorial service. http://www.nypost.com/seven/06202008/gossip/pagesix/cable_guys_lust_for_tims_job_116298.htm The Olbermann reference is also not sourced.

Both denied the story the same day -- Olbermann went so far as to go on hs show that night and not only say "I'm not interested," but to go on to say, "It's ludicrous, because I know that I am not qualified to do that job."

It is noteworthy that the story has never been corroborated by anyone -- it has simply been passed around on the Republican, PUMA and pro-Hillary blogs because it fits the worldview that Matthews and Olbermann are bad guys.

No self-respecting Democrat should be paying any attention to the unsourced rantings of an unknown person on Page Six of the NY Post. Page One of the NY Post is better than the National Enquirer, though not by a lot; Page Six is worse than the National Enquirer.
