The US Constitution and Three Branches of Government
My Cuban-American "hermano" in the Senate is mulling over the bill introduced by Democratic Senator Russell Feingold of Wisconsin to censure the president.
Atlanta Progressive News is reporting that in an interview Democratic Sen. Robert Menendez of New Jersey along with several other senators is "looking closely at the bill, S Res 398" and supporing it.
So far, Sens. Barbara Boxer of California, Tom Harkin of Iowa and John Kerry of Massachusetts have signed on as co-sponsors.
As progressive bloggers have previously noted, Democrats should not back away from the issue of presidential oversight; and yes, if laws were broken, censure is eminently appropriate.
As Digy of Hullabaloo writes, the GOP has "got big brass ones..."
They behaved like a slavering lynch mob for six solid years and now evoke that image against the party they lynched.Under President Clinton, there wasn't a whisper, innuendo, fantasy or lie that didn't warrant a special counsel; and yes, the public was appalled.
But guess what? The public fully supported the Nixon House impeachment hearings because real laws were broken. It wasn't about some seedy affair in the Oval Office, which Congress and the public had no business tracking down.
People know the difference between public and private acts. So in the words of our fearless leader, "Bring them on!" And the next time the press starts blabbering about impeachment, Democrats needs to remind them that it's all about the constitution, legislative oversight and the rule of law!

Feingold's resolution is slowly gaining traction. I'm hopeful. Any idea how long we have till they vote on it?
I suppose until the end of the congressional session, which ends in December; and hopefully, both the House and the Senate will fall into Democratic loving hands in January.
