The Die-Tech Candidate in Virginia
Like the mortgage guy who keeps losing to Die-Tech in those TV ads, Harris Miller keeps losing more and more political ground to James Webb as the primary date draws closer.
Poor Miller, he can’t get any respect!
Only yesterday, Tom Davis in an interview about GOP chances to hold power in Congress “was coaxed to offer his thoughts on the US Senate race”, according to MSNBC's "First Read."
And guess whose name was the focus of his comments?!? James Webb, of course.
Here’s what Davis had to say on the subject:
Starting with the caveat that both incumbent GOP Sen. George Allen and Democratic candidate Jim Webb are friends of his, Davis said he was "surprised" to see Webb, former US Navy Secretary under President Reagan, get in the race. He said that campaigns require discipline..."Let's see how that works out" for Webb...And Davis wasn't referring to the Democratic primary, either.
Providing war hero Webb as a Senate choice in November for Virginians is a no-brainer for Democrats. Against the junior do-nothing who is more concerned about '08 than serving his adopted state, Webb will get major press and major $$$$; and then go on to whip Allen's phony butt.
In an interesting sidenote, Davis offers an interesting quote from the Christian Science Monitor that speaks of Allen as well as his own chances in the fall.
"The members who are most likely to lose may not be the guys who are targeted.... [I]t is the guy who has been voting with the party for years and who hasn't paid that much attention to what is going on back home ... and all of a sudden the electorate changes and these are the guys who get surprised."Well, at least Davis is AWARE. Allen is too delusional to see the writing on the wall!

Harris Miller is the "die-tech" candidate for another reason too.
He has told American IT workers to just go off and die. He doesn't care if the American IT workers cease to exist. It's all about serving his corporate paymasters' needs...
From Miller's standpoint, it doesn't matter if all IT work is done offshore or in the U.S. by imported foreign replacement workers...
The suicide of IT worker Kevin Flanagan never made a dent in Miller's indifference to the fate of people thrown out of work for no other crime than being paid an American middle class wage.

I spoke to Tom about Webb's entrance in the Democratic PRIMARY and we both agreed that Webb is on completely unfamiliar ground. The above quote in no way indicates that Webb has an easy ride in the Primary or General.
As for the commercial, I think it is a stroke of genius for the Miller campaign, and well-timed (Mayor Eullie and the entire Alexandria City Counsel just endorsed Miller).
This makes the Webb campaign look like they are dead in the water!

Actually I thought about adding the part about Davis being "surprised," but then decided against it 'cause then I'd have to add yet another paragraph.
Which was, the reason Davis was surprised to see Webb in the race is 'cause Webb is such a strong candidate that he was surprised Democrats had been able to nab him and recruit him to run.
In other words, kudos for landing Webb.
And yep, in hindsight, I should have added the paragraph!
