Family in Egypt in Harm's Way

Breaking news that as many as 30 people died in a recent spate of violence in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Dahab has Howling Latina worried. Her daughter and family moved to Cairo last month.

Reuters via CNN reports:

"There were body parts and debris in the street. ...There are ambulances and cars taking people to hospital," one witness, who refused to be named, told Reuters news service.

"There is smoke coming from the area and there are people running everywhere," Reuters quoted another witness as saying. One witness, Serge Loussararian from Cairo, told CNN he was about 300 feet away when the explosions occurred. He said the blasts targeted a tourist area in front of hotels, restaurants and bars on the
beach.

And Rueters in a separate article writes that the director of rescue services in South Sinai province, Said Issa, indicated "the number of wounded was 160, with some in critical condition."
