One More Reason for the Supreme Court to Ban Capital Punishment

Today Yahoo! News reports of a botched execution in Ohio. It took the state several tries before they could finally locate a vein to inject the lethal cocktail that rendered Joseph Lewis Clark, 57, dead.

The execution was set to begin at 10 a.m., but was delayed as the team worked to find a vein in his right arm to administer the injection. Clark said "these don't work" and "they're not working" as the team tried to start the injection.

After 25 minutes of trying to find a vein, a curtain was pulled over the window separating witnesses from the area where the execution was to take place. Clark was heard moaning and groaning and when the curtain was reopened he had two shunts in his arm.

Of course, the felon governor refused to grant Clark clemency. Hmmm, can't wait for Gov. Bob Taft to join his fellow felons in prison.

Like the Good Book says, ""Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." (Matthew 7:1-2)

Comments:
My guess is that he suffered not nearly so much as his victim.

I note that he didn't rate a mention in your post.

BTW, Taft pleaded not guilty to misdemeanors, not felonies, if my recollection is correct.

Wait a second, you use God's word to state that one should "not judge", but you run a political blog. Doesn't the Bible also condemn hypocrisy?

My judgements don't render death.

And James, a thousand apologies, I got Taft mixed up with Noe.

So many GOP crooks, hard to keep it all straight.

Oh, and one more item. The public will never REALLY KNOW what all Taft was up to; and what kind of sweet deal he may have made with the prosecutor. The Ohio Supreme Court agreed with the disgraced governor to keep his records hidden from the taxpaying public.

The bottom line is this:
1) If even one innocent person dies it's one to many
2)the death penalty costs taxpayers more than merely letting someone rot in jail
3)and, it's not a deterrent to violent crime!

I have an idea! For every prison we build in this country let's build a school and a community center!

Prevention is a lot cheaper than prison. Educate children, put art and music back into the schools ... and give them something to do after school other than get into trouble.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out.
